Nutrition

A part of the effort to help School Readiness programs provide high quality care for children, a component of the grant requirements focuses on nutrition for children and their families.  The SDE has identified several critical areas and developed guidelines for ‘Best Practice’ for programs.

These include:

  • 1) Identifying the nutritional needs of children
  • 2) Providing safe and nutritious meals and snacks
  • 3) Educating children, parents and staff about good, healthy eating habits

The state, through the State Education Resource Center (SERC), has a wealth of information, strategies and materials to help programs meet their School Readiness obligations.  Additionally, through collaboration of agencies at the Children First Norwich/School Readiness Council, information and resources are shared across the early childcare community.
